Thales of Miletus 624 BCE to 546 BCE - One of the earliest known ancient Greek philosophers, and one of the Seven Sages or Wise Men of Greece. Thales brought mathematical knowledge from Egypt, expanded on it, and developed new theorems and ideas. He also delved into the metaphysical, proposing that all matter is made of water.
