Shapur I the Great 215 CE to 270 CE - The king of the Persian Empire after his father, Ardashir I. There is evidence that they ruled together as father and son. Early in his career he accompanied Ardashir during his conquest of the Parthian Empire. He also battled with the Roman Empire and scored numerous victories that led to the capture of the Roman Emperor Valerian.
