Pericles 495 BCE to 429 BCE - A statesman and general that was the leading figure in Greek politics. During his career he served as a general during the Peloponnesian War, and used his influence to promote the arts and education. Pericles also started many ambitious projects like the Parthenon and other structures on the Acropolis in Athens.
